START A NEW YEAR WITH PRAYER

In prayer, human beings seek to augment their finite energy by addressing themselves to the Infinite source of all energy. When we pray, we link ourselves with the inexhaustible motive power that spins the universe. We pray that a part of this power can be apportioned to our needs. Even in asking, our human deficiencies are filled as we arise strengthened and repaired.

– Dr. Alexis Carrel, Nobel prize winner and author of Man, the Unknown

Puji, the Chairperson of last Sunday service, mentioed that, "when we set our hearts to pursue career, family or things on earth, we can probably achieve something. But when we set our hearts to pursue God and His purpose, we find everything!

Let's start the year of 2011 with a prayerful heart to pursue what God values and put us on earth for!

Ps Lai Ling had the impression from the Lord that as we earnestly seek Him together (with the rest of HIM churches), there’s going to come not just streams of His blessings and breakthrough and outpouring but that the streams become rivers; small to big rivers overflowing in the lives of His people and in the church as a corporate body.

So let's click on the link below to pray for yourself and the Bride of Jesus Christ - our church!

OPPOSITION OF GOSPEL - DO YOU CARE?

[source]
We used to hear about persecution of Christians or opposition of the Gospel happening at the rural areas or uncivilised countries of the world, which we find it hard to relate ourselves into their situations.
Today, this fallen world has changed. It is no longer happening only in those rural areas or countries. It is happening now in Gold Coast, Australia!!
Pastor Josh Williamson from Sovereign Grace Baptist Church at Banyo and Ryan Hemelaar from Redlands Presbyterian lead an evangelism ministry (
www.operation513.com ) that does street outreach on the weekends – Fridays at Surfers Paradise and Saturday Nights in the Queen St Mall respectively.
While they have a permit to do evangelism late-night in Queen St from Brisbane City Council, their Gold Coast outreach has had unfortunate confrontations with the Police who have threatened them with orders to “move on”, fines, even arrest and imprisonment for “disrupting public peace” - even though they are ministering on public property within full constitutional agreement.
Despite their being no actual reasons in Australian Law that would restrict evangelism, Gold Coast City Council has flatly refused to grant permission (written or otherwise) to people who wish to evangelize in public on the grounds that an exemption is necessary.
This has even caught the media’s attention and channel 10 ran a feature on the news last night:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wJ7S0Z7uvek

Today, if you think that, Christians who share their faith in the public is wrong - please read for yourself what it says in the Bible:
"So they called them and charged them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus. But Peter and John answered them, “Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you rather than to God, you must judge, for we cannot but speak of what we have seen and heard."
Acts 4:18-20
What if John and Peter had said, “But we cannot proselytize. It is illegal.” Would not the story of the Christian church have been changed forever? And when we as Christians say it now, are we not changing the story of the Christian church in our day? Are we allowing earthly authorities to command us to do things that they have no authority to require of us as citizens of the heavenly kingdom? Have we forgotten who is the ultimate authority?

Can I encourage you all to pray not just for other evangelistic efforts’ covering and support, but also for ourselves in our own outreach that the preaching of the gospel will not be hindered by the restrictions of man, but even when such restrictions are indeed put in place, the church will only grow stronger in power and authority.

Now, Lord, look on their threats, and grant to Your servants that with all boldness they may speak Your word, by stretching out Your hand to heal, and that signs and wonders may be done through the name of Your holy Servant Jesus.”
And when they had prayed, the place where they were assembled together was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness.
Acts 4:29-31

WHY ATTENDING CORPORATE PRAYER?

The New Testament prayer meeting reveals the master plan of Jesus. The last thing Jesus did on earth was to build that prayer meeting, and it is the only thing He left behind on planet Earth when He ascended to heaven.
Everything by Prayer, Fred Hartley, page 13
Attending corporate prayer has been one of the most rewarding and refreshing experiences I had with God and what keeps my faith and passion strong in Christ. Corporate prayer is a place where the children of God gather together, with one pure desire – to seek God and experience Him in a personal way. It is not a place for leaders only; not a place for mature Christians only; it’s also not a place only for those whom can recite fluent and beautiful sentence.
Throughout my attendance to our church prayer meeting, I experienced the touch of God in a personal and deep way; I heard words of wisdom that matches right to my condition which encouraged and strengthened me; I drew closer to God and feel confident about His intimate love and grace for me; my self-centredness is being replaced by God- centredness. At times even when the tiredness from work consumed me, as I chose to step in to the prayer meeting, God replaced my outward fatigue with inner strength and refreshment which caused the tiredness to be gone and left me with deeper joy and greater assurance of His mighty hands that are on me.
Last Tuesday we had a great corporate prayer meeting. We prayed against the giants in our walk, like faith giant, witnessing giant, ministry giant, etc. After praying, there’s healing altar call by Peter Truong our evangelist. Many went out for healing prayer and a few people shared the healing that they received on that night. During worship time God gave me a picture of an emerging hill, with an emerging sun next to it, then comes a stream of river flowing from the hill. God then impressed in my heart that He is the One who can lead me to new ground, who can enable new change n new things to come. My role is to seek Him and commit all my ministry n burdens to Him. He will make them happen for me. The joy of God just came upon me. I suppose that it takes faith to believe for new thing/change to happen in our lives. But it’s also when we choose to believe that God is able then we’ll reap the fruits and our walk with God will become more joyful and satisfying.
With my little testimony, I pray that you will see corporate prayer meeting in a new perspectives – as a place of a green pasture and quiet waters where we can enjoy more of God, a path of righteousness and restoration of God’s will upon you and I; and a place of re-establishing our first love for Christ. Please join us in the corporate prayer meeting on Tuesday every fortnight. Let’s be serious about our faith in Christ and go deeper in our walk with God!

Praying Together with You,
Leann
